This is what it looked like for most of the day today. Looking on is my riding buddy Elizabeth. This shot was taken shortly before I HAD MY FIRST FLAT!! I hadn't checked my tire pressure before pushing off in the morning and was horrified to find that my rear (of course) tire was pretty soft. I pumped it up, waited for about 10 minutes and sure enough, it was soft again. Here I really lucked out: this all happened at a Sag stop, and our guide/bike mechanic extrodinaire had just pulled up in the trailer where my brand new tires were housed. Our Sag driver of the day, Carol ( a friend from NH who I trained with all last summer) and Michelle changed the tire and hopefully I'll be able to do the next one solo. A small piece of wire was the culprit and mine was one of 7 flats today, bringing the trip total to 10. Flats and other mechanical difficulties are always a group event, everyone being extremely helpful and willing to share their knowledge - I love our group.
