One of the most amazing aspects of our route through this part of the Mississippi valley is the birding - 300 species of birds live here apparently, a large percentage of them songbirds and hawks. Many appear to be supported by the caddis fly population, who define 'prolific'. They are everywhere, and their carcasses need to be cleaned off of sidewalks, any and all light fixtures, even with the aid of a snowplow on the streets in some instances. Hopefully you can see them teeming on the leaves of the plant below.
