We screeched to a halt when we say this Cowboy Church, "Penning for Jesus" on our 90 mile ride to Bastrop from Blanco,  where there were 2 such churches.  The day was perfect temperature wise, though the shoulders were nil for much of the ride complicated by a very gusty wind, a scary combo.  I had a birding high point when 3 Scissor Tailed Flycatchers ( beautiful extra long tail that flares out, yes, like scissors!) followed us for about a half mile, flying ahead and landing on a telephone wire just a little ahead of where we were riding.  One of the coolest things about cycling is the number of close encounters of the animal kind that you can have if you pay attention.  I have my mother Es to thank for instilling this awareness in me.  She also taught me bird calls, so even if I don't actually see birds, I know what's around by the call.  Another shocker:  Texas is lousy with cardinals!
