We hit gold in our quest to find local color eateries when a helpful guy directed us to Preuses Meat Market in La Grange. The front part of the place is indeed, a butcher shop, but the smell indicated that some serious barbecue was also happening, and we were directed to a small dining area in the back. The shop has been in the family for 5 generations and this store was opened in 1953. I recognized many 1950's -esque accoutraments; the red formica tables were the same pattern as Es and Jim's countertops on Appletree Road and the soap in the bathroom was Lava, which came in really handy for me as I had changed a flat earlier in the day. The patrons and staff were so friendly to us and curious about our trip and the food was out of this world. They even invited us to store our bikes in the front of the store for safety. It was one of the best lunch stops yet!
